Many would describe me as sunshine through a hurricane and I must say I like that analogy. Most of the time I love to bring the sunshine to wherever I go, but at other times, it is necessary to bring the storm. I am passionate about sharing my story with others to help them find the light through their darkness, hope through the hopeless feeling moments, and being a voice to those who feel unheard and unseen. Life is hard, there is no denying that. Growth happens while learning to walk through the adversity that comes your way and having the grit to keep getting back up when it knocks you down. Healing is not for the weak. It is messy, heartbreaking, exhausting, and a long process. However, there is a beautiful place of peace, purpose and empowerment waiting for you on the other side. Helping others along their journey of healing is my greatest passion.
I was a school teacher at a Title 1 campus for 20 years and loved every minute of it. I began my Life Coaching journey back in 2012 with the intention of working with women and children of assault. I had an epiphany that I needed to use these coping strategies with students that were underprivileged and were going to have to overcome circumstances at a higher rate than those not born into certain situations. If I could teach students to cope with disappointment, build resilience, learn healthy boundaries and how to regulate their emotions, then perhaps they wouldn’t turn to unhealthy ways of coping with life. There is nothing greater than guiding our youth to be forces for the good in our communities. I began to incorporate social-emotional concepts and skill sets into my morning meetings. I became certified as a facilitator for Stephen Covey’s 7 Habits of Happy Kids and taught leadership characteristics to my students and began training staff members.
I transitioned from being a teacher to a Positive Behavior Facilitator for my school district. This position allows me to focus all my energy into supporting students who have been struggling in school and teaching them skill sets that can bring out their greatest potential. I am living my dream! I also facilitate educational trainings about creating safe and productive schools and classrooms for students who need more behavioral support.
I continued my Life Coaching certification and became a Master Life Coach and then finally became certified as an Executive Level Trauma Coach where work with special victims. I began speaking at conferences, seminars and events to encourage and empower people to step out of the trauma of their past and into a place of freedom, healing and purpose. This is where I took on the mantra of my life theme- Unbreakable Joy. Beauty can be birthed out of the ashes, if we just keep growing through the pain and pushing forward into brighter days.
In 2023, I added a new addition to my support toolbox. Meet Hugsley, the “Hug Pug”! He is in dual training as a Psychological Service Dog for stress and anxiety responses, as well as in training as a therapy dog. He has already made a big impact with the students he has been working alongside and I am so very proud of him.
